Welcome back to our last term in Year 1! I can’t believe it’s already the summer term! We have a very busy term ahead full of exciting things to learn as well as completing our phonics check for the year.
This newsletter will give you more information about what is happening in the classroom and all the exciting things that will be taking place.
Here is a taster of just some of the exciting things the children in Year 1 will be doing…
In English we will be reading a variety of texts and will explore different genres of writing:
- Writing an instruction text
- A recount
- Setting Description
In our exciting Maths lessons, we will be learning:
· Multiplication and Division
· Fractions
· Position and Direction
· Numbers to 100
· Money and Time
In RE we will grow closer to God through the themes of:
- Holy Week
- Easter
- Sharing Jesus’ life
- Pentecost
- Following Jesus today
Science lessons will be focused on Animals including Humans and Plants
We will learn about:
-Grouping animals
- Environment exploration
- Where do woodlice live?
- Pets
Plants
-Garden centres and seeds
-Wild Plants
-In the Garden
-Terrific Trees
-Parts of Plants
-How do plants grow?
In History, we will be focusing on important people.
We will learn about:
-Guy Fawkes - Florence Nightingale
-Mary Seacole - Rosa Parks
- Malala Yousafzai - Queen Elizabeth
Geography lessons this term will focus on:
-Know where the equator, North Pole and South Pole are on a globe
-Features of Hot and cold places
-Know the main differences between city, town and village.
In Art, children will be focusing on making birds through;
-mark making
-manipulating 2D to 3D
-Sculptures
In Design and Technology, the children will be making Fabric faces. We will design, make and evaluate and be able to suggest improvements which could be made to the original design.
We will also design and make a food product focusing on cutting.
We will focus on skills of:
- Cutting food safely
- sewing
- Fine Motor skills
- Stapling, gluing, taping, safety pinning and stitching a selection of fabrics.
In our P.E. lessons we will:
- Understand the importance of health-related exercise.
- Learn Football
- Learn Athletics
- Learn to Swim
- Learn Striking and Fielding
